Paramount Pictures has released a poster confirming a new release date for Transformers: The Last Knight, as well as announcing a new sneak preview to air during the MTV Awards this weekend. In the years since Transformers: Age of Extinction released, Paramount has formed a writers’ room of some of Hollywood’s top scribes to conceive a Transformers shared universe, filled with sequels, spinoffs, and perhaps even prequels.

Despite reiterating that The Last Knight will be his final time directing a Transformers movie, Bay has once again said that he’ll be willing to return to the franchise in the future, but for a spinoff. Considering that there are over a dozen ideas planned for the new cinematic universe, Bay will have a variety to choose from. But first, he’ll have to get through this next film, which will be releasing slightly earlier than expected.

Michael Bay released a new poster for Transformers: The Last Knight on Twitter on Friday, which confirms a new release date for the movie. The upcoming sequel will release two days earlier — on Wednesday, June 21st, instead of Friday, June 23rd. Bay also confirmed a new sneak preview airing during the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday, May 7 at 8/7c.

MTV may be roping television into their previously movie-exclusive awards ceremony this year, but that doesn’t mean they have lost sight of roots. In addition to bringing a sneak preview of Transformers: The Last Knight, the network will also be airing teasers for Andrés Muschietti’s IT and Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming. It’s unclear, though, what type of preview will be shown for the new Transformers flick, whether it will be an edited trailer, a short teaser, or a clip.

Aside from the preview, the new poster features the tagline, “For one world to live, the other must die,” which is something Bay highlighted in his tweet. Coupling that ominous quote with the fact that Optimus Prime looks like he’s hovering over a downed Bumblebee, this poster might confirm a theory suggesting that the Autobot rebuilds himself sometime in the movie with the parts of his fallen friend. If that’s true, then what will that mean for the upcoming Bumblebee spinoff?

There have been five Transformers movies over the past decade, but Paramount is planning to incorporate an annual release strategy for the franchise. Bumblebee is set to get a solo movie next year, with the currently untitled Transformers 6 following suit the year after — in 2019. It’s unknown what will follow the sixth installment, but there are several spinoffs that we would like to see. As for Michael Bay, we’ll just to wait and see if decides to return (or never leave) the franchise.
