Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis might not appear to be the most likely collaborators, but they are aiming to work together on an untitled new movie that combines comedy and music.

Not much is known about the film's story, other than it's apparently set in the 1960s or '70s, and will chronicle the struggles of a musician trying to make it in Britain.

The news, as first reported by Baz Bamigboye and now followed up by The Hollywood Reporter comes as chatter has been flying about Boyle potentially taking on the latest Bond film. This new development would appear to throw a spanner into those works, especially as Universal, which is backing the movie, is hoping to have it shooting this summer. If Boyle does indeed find the cast he'd need to make it, that would effectively put him out of the running – and word had seen him seriously considering the Bond job if a script from regular writer John Hodge comes together – for Eon, which would either have to wait (delaying a planned 8 November, 2019 release) or find someone else.

This certainly feels more in his wheelhouse (though Boyle has certainly shown he can succeed in various genres), and we'll see if it all comes together.
