CORONATION Street fans spotted a poignant tribute to Anne Kirkbride in tonight's show - exactly four years after her last appearance as Deirdre Barlow.

The actress, who died aged 60 in 2015, was given a special place in the episode as Deirdre's daughter Tracy prepared for her wedding.

Anne was seen in a photograph of Deirdre and Ken Barlow, which was placed behind Tracy as she got ready for her big day.

Viewers pointed out the placement of the picture could not be a coincidence as it came exactly four years to the day of Anne's last appearance in the soap.

One wrote: "The wonderful #AnneKirkbride made her last appearance as #Deirdre on this day back in 2014. So nice to see her on tonights @itvcorrie...

"Never forgotten, always missed. #OurAnnie #corrie #CoronationStreet @Kateford76 @corriepedia #deirdrebarlow."

Tracy was also later seen crying over a picture of her parents after Ken decided he would not be going to the wedding.

Anne played Deirdre for 41 years before bowing out on October 8, 2014.

The beloved actress passed away in January, 2015 after a battle with cancer and her death sent Corrie fans into mourning.

Earlier this year, Bill Roache, who played Ken Barlow, claimed he could still feel Anne's spirit on the set.

Speaking to the Radio Times, the actor explained: "Even now, I can still feel her around. It’s very powerful, particularly at the Barlows, where Ken and Deirdre were called upon to do a lot of crying and shouting.”

“But I know all is well for her. And you get to the point where you can think about the happy times and enjoy them.”

“She’s only ever a thought away – love is a great connector.”

Bill reflected fondly on the time they worked together, continuing: “I can say to Annie: ‘Didn’t we have a great time?’"
