Marvel may be ruling the box office with their superheroes spread out across a half dozen studios, but their crosstown rival D.C. sure aren’t sitting on their laurels. D.C. and their studio partners at Warner Bros. have officially have been given a pilot order from NBC for a TV version of “Constantine,” with “Batman” trilogy guy David Goyer as one of its producers.

The show is said to “follow the ‘master of the occult’ John Constantine as he struggles with his faith and is haunted by the sins of his past, then is suddenly thrust into the role of defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.”

As you’ll recall, the character was previously brought to the big screen in a 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz. Rumors of a sequel to that film have been floating around forever, but with a TV series now set up at a major network, it’s anybody’s guess if the Reeves version will live on, or fade away.

I wonder, since this is 2014, will Constantine still be chomping down on his trademark cigarettes, or will he be puffing on one of those girly looking e-cigs instead? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

“Dexter’s” Daniel Cerone will share producer honors with Goyer on the show.
