Mission: Impossible 6 will mark the first time in the series that a director has returned for a second entry, and the third time that McQuarrie has directed Tom Cruise after Rogue Nation and Jack Reacher. He was also responsible for penning the screenplay for Edge of Tomorrow.

Mission: Impossible 6 is slated for release in 2017, and will begin production after Cruise finishes up with another sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
