Chris Hemsworth says the first trailer for Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t give much away. The superhero team-up movie coming from the Captain America: Civil War directing duo is considered the most highly-anticipated movie of the year. In addition to presumably reuniting the Avengers, the upcoming film will also bring the Guardians of the Galaxy into the fold for an ultimate showdown with the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his loyal Black Order.

While a lot is still unknown about Infinity War, Marvel Studios debuted the film’s first trailer at the end of November, giving audiences their first look at the Avengers sequel. The trailer, understandably, became the most watched trailer debut ever. But a relatively common grievance amongst those who watched the trailer was that it might have given far too much information away, something that has become increasingly more common with trailers in recent years. For instance, it’s shown what happens to Thor, Hulk, and Loki following the conclusion of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, and it shows that Thanos’ Black Order manages to capture Vision (and perhaps extract his Infinity Stone). But according to Hemsworth, several plot points remain a secret.

In an interview with IGN for his upcoming movie 12 Strong, Chris Hemsworth said that the Avengers: Infinity War trailer actually doesn’t give enough information away, at least that was his take when he watched the teaser himself.

“It doesn’t give much away, for sure, because I remember watching it going, ‘Aw, it doesn’t tell people enough.’ And then Joe [Russo] was like, you don’t need to tell them anything, they want anything… Like, ‘Does it explain the story?’ It’s like, ‘It doesn’t need to.'”

Sure, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans and longtime comic book readers already know what Avengers: Infinity War‘s overarching narrative is about, particularly that Thanos and the Black Order are traversing the galaxy seeking the six Infinity Stones, but what they don’t know is how it will all play out in the end. That’s both good and bad, for a film’s marketing that plays things too close to the chest and doesn’t share the right details can have an adverse effect on theater attendance and the film’s box office haul. It’s happened before, but if any film is sheltered from that type of box office harm, it’s Avengers.

Chris Hemsworth is slated to reprise his role as Thor in not only Avengers: Infinity War, but also in the Russos’ currently-untitled Avengers 4, due out in May 2019. As for the story, we’ll just have to wait and see how it all ends.
