Thor actor Chris Hemsworth is excited by Disney’s acquisition of FOX and the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchisescoming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Officially beginning with Iron Man in 2008, the MCU has had a insanely successful run in its nearly 10 years of existence, as Thor and Captain America films followed on the franchise’s way to the worldwide blockbuster The Avengers in 2012.

Of course, the lineup for the MCU as it came together was pretty impressive, as famed Marvel characters like Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, Hawkeye, Hulk, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, Black Panther and the Guardians of the Galaxy joined the ranks. Despite the success of the superhero conglomerate, along with it came a certain amount of sadness, since the dreams of bringing additional Marvel icons like Spider-Man, the X-Men (including Wolverine and Deadpool) and the Fantastic Four seemed impossible due to the rights to those characters being owned by competing studios.

Fortunately for fans of the webslinger, Disney-Marvel and Sony were able to find a common ground in 2016 to bring Spider-Man into the MCU with Captain America: Civil War, and in turn, have Tony Stark/Iron Man appear in Spidey’s MCU solo debut, Spider-Man: Homecoming. And if that weren’t an exciting enough of a development, Disney shocked the industry last month when it finalized a deal to buy FOX’s film and TV divisions, essentially taking ownership of the studio’s Marvel franchises, along with Avatar.

Basking in the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Hemsworth is giving his thoughts publicly about the deal, and he’s pretty pumped. In a new interview with Cinema Blend for his upcoming Afghanistan war drama 12 Strong, the God of Thunder is approving the Disney-FOX deal with some rumbling enthusiasm. Mainly, it appears that Hemsworth is excited about the idea of bringing the X-Men characters into The Avengers’ fold. He says:

“Oh, [it’s] awesome. And I hope they get to do it, because contractually a lot of us have now kind of done our run. But to interact… and I’ve said that a while ago about, ‘Imagine interacting with Wolverine or all the different characters from X-Men’… [Deadpool and Thor] would be pretty cool. The most exciting thing about Avengers was just being on set as Thor with the Guardians, or… I was as much a fan to see that kick off as anyone else.”

In all likelihood Hemsworth’s fellow Avengers team members share his excitement, but unfortunately, some of them may not be around for the blessed union between the Avengers and the X-Men. With Avengers: Infinity War coming out in about five months and its untitled sequel steeped in production for a May 2019 release, it’s obvious that the ultimate Marvel superhero gathering isn’t going to happen right away.

That’s not good news for Hemsworth, Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), whose deals are up after the fourth Avengers film. Of course, perhaps somehow Disney-Marvel can get the actors to re-up after that, perhaps leading to Hemsworth’s dream encounter between Thor, Wolverine and Deadpool in the MCU’s Phase 4.
