Ryan Gosling is an elite assassin on the run in the official The Gray Man trailer. An adaptation of Mark Greaney's novel of the same name has languished in development hell for over a decade, exchanging hands from Ad Astra director James Gray to Avengers: Endgame duo the Russo Brothers in mid-2020. Though a variety of stars were previously attached or in talks for the project, including Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron, Netflix would eventually land the rights to The Gray Man with the Russos casting Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans to lead the cast.

Gosling stars in The Gray Man as skilled mercenary Court Gentry who uncovers CIA dark secrets and is forced to go on the run with a target placed on his head and bounty hunters tracking him down around the globe, including his psychopathic former colleague, Evans' Lloyd Hansen. Alongside Gosling and Evans, the ensemble cast for The Gray Man includes Knives Out's Ana de Armas, Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page, The Matrix Resurrections' Jessica Henwick, Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard, Loki's DeObia Oparei and The Many Saints of Newark's Michael Gandolfini. With the film's release right around the corner, audiences are getting their first proper look at the Russos' return to the action genre.

As the film gears up for its July release, Netflix has released the official The Gray Man trailer. The video introduces Gosling's skilled mercenary Court and Evans' maniacal villain Lloyd as they race around the globe in a deadly cat-and-mouse game. Check out the exciting trailer below:

The official Gray Man trailer offers an exciting peek at the explosive action to come from Avengers: Endgame duo Joe and Anthony Russo in their first major blockbuster since the Marvel Cinematic Universe epic. Between the city-spanning chase sequence resulting in a destructive train crash to multiple close encounters between Gosling's titular character and Evans' villainous Lloyd, the Russos' recent tease of "relentless" action scenes feels very true in the new footage for the film. Interestingly, while most plot descriptions for the film have described Court and Lloyd as being former colleagues, their first major interaction in the trailer seemingly indicates the two having never met one another before.

While The Gray Man trailer reveals plenty of the pulse-pounding action audiences have come to expect from the Russo brothers, the video also teases some sly humor to come from Gosling and Evans throughout the film. Evans has teased that the character is unlike anything he's played before as he is "liberated" and "free" while the Russos recently compared his character to Captain America with a humorous Avengers: Endgame reference, saying they changed the actor from "America's a-- to America's a--hole." Only time will tell if audiences connect to this new side of Evans and help launch the franchise plans for the property when The Gray Man hits Netflix on July 22.
