CBS is currently having talks about The Big Bang Theory possibly getting a season 13. The popular sitcom following the lives of six nerdy friends remains a hit ratings-wise for the network, averaging a 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 and 14 million viewers an episode in Live+Same Day in its 24-episode 11th season. The show's popularity even spawned a spinoff, Young Sheldon, which follow the early years of Jim Parson's fan-favorite character.

It feels like it's not too long ago when discussions about whether or not The Big Bang Theory will continue past season 10 were going around. Now, with just one more confirmed season on the docket, fans are wondering if there will be more to the show after season 12, which is scheduled to debut this fall TV season. And while nothing is set in stone yet, loyal viewers will be happy to know that CBS is already thinking of another full season order for the series.

During a panel at the TCA summer press tour over the weekend covered by Variety, CBS Entertainment head Kelly Kahl revealed that there are ongoing internal talks about the sitcom returning next year. “We don’t believe it’s the final year," he said, adding, “We are in preliminary discussions to renew the show with Warner Bros.” Interestingly, this prompted series co-creator and executive producer Bill Prady to take to his social media and react to the development, tweeting a simple, "Fascinating," with regard to the news.

As previously mentioned, this is by no means a confirmation that The Big Bang Theory is indeed coming back for season 13. The contract negotiations with the cast will play a major role in whether or not the sitcom will move forward. While most of them have expressed interest in reprising their roles as long as the show is around, salary discussion is obviously going to play a factor in the actors' decisions. Fans can remember that Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg have reportedly taken pay cuts in order to allow pay raise for their co-stars Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik prior to the show getting renewed for seasons 11 and 12. While all six actors are now the face of the popular sitcom, Rauch and Bialik only became regulars in the series' fourth season.

Story-wise, it will all depend on where Prady and co-creator Chuck Lorre are planning to take the six nerdy friends in the show's upcoming outing. Season 11 ended with Sheldon and Amy finally tying the knot with Mark Hamill serving as the episode's guest star. Fans can expect that The Big Bang Theory season 12 will focus on the two's early days as a married couple, although it's curious if there's anything that will drastically change with their living arrangements considering they've been living together for quite some time now. Perhaps the show can also shine a light on Leonard and Penny's lackluster married life, and maybe even Raj's personal life given that he's the only single one left in the group.

The Big Bang Theory season 12 and Young Sheldon season 2 premiere September 24 on CBS.
