Jude Law is teasing his mysterious Captain Marvel character. One of the early gets for Captain Marvel's cast to surround star Brie Larson was Law. After appearing in Sherlock Holmes and signing on for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, he is joining the superhero movie scene. Upon his casting, it was reported that Law would play legendary Marvel hero (and the original Captain Marvel) Mar-Vell. However, he has been hesitant to confirm that as his role, and Marvel has followed a similarly mysterious path. The mystery has begun to unravel, now that first look images from Captain Marvel have been released.

Law has been featured in a few Captain Marvel images released so far, though they haven't revealed too many details about his character. However, it has been confirmed that he's the leader of Starforce, a special unit of highly-skilled Kree warriors. He's also mentoring Larson's Carol Danvers so she can better harness her powers. Now, Law is finally opening up (a bit) about who he is playing.

Speaking to EW as part of their extensive coverage on Captain Marvel, Law teased some aspects of his character. Neither he nor Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck would confirm his character's name, but Law was able to at least tease what his character is like:

He is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people. So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.

Based on this description of Law's character, it is no wonder Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) appears to be his right hand guy. Ronan had similar characteristics in Guardians of the Galaxy, so it may be Law's character who imbues this way of thinking to Ronan. The drive of Law's character certainly doesn't sound like a prototypical mentor character, or even Mar-Vell, and the secrecy around his name is already sparking speculation as to who this "devout warrior" is.

Speculation has already started to turn to Law actually being Captain Marvel's secret villain, or at least one of them. Many believed Ben Mendelsohn was playing classic Captain Marvel foe Yon-Rogg, but he's actually playing a Skrull by the name of Talos. If Yon-Rogg is involved, this could be who Law is playing. Such a twist would make it so Captain Marvel doesn't side with just the Kree, but instead winds up fighting both sides of the Kree-Skrull war. Considering how little we actually know about Law's character at this time and Marvel's general approach to him so far, who Law is playing in Captain Marvel could be a major secret for months to come.
