HBO has released the first extended look at its upcoming comedy, Camping, starring Jennifer Garner as Kathryn, the obsessively organized and agressively controlling wife to David Tennant's Walt as the couple and their friends embark upon a four-night outdoor trip to celebrate Walt's 45th birthday. But what's supposed to be a delightful outing turns into a weekend of tested marriages and woman-on-woman crime, as HBO has teased of Girls showrunners Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner's take on the British series of the same name, written and directed by Julia Davis.

In the trailer, Walt and Kathryn have drinks with another couple at a picnic table and Kathryn ominously observes that the trip, "may not be fun. It may not be any fun at all."

Viewers then see a montage of wild behavior, including a food fight, someone falling out of a tree and Kathryn slapping Walt as Kathryn shouts, "Where the fuck are we?!"

She's then shown sharing a quiet moment with Bridget Everett, who says of the campsite, "This place has its own magic."

The cast also includes Juliette Lewis, Janicza Bravo, Arturo Del Puerto, Brett Gelman and Ione Skye.

The eight-episode limited series, executive produced by Konner and Dunham, is set to premiere on HBO on Oct. 14. As for whether the show might get a follow-up, a la Big Little Lies, Konner was non-committal but wouldn't rule it out at yesterday's Television Critics Association session.

"I don’t know. You have to ask HBO that question, because we really sold it as this limited series, so I don’t know," Konner said. "But I would die to come back to these people."

Speaking at TCA, Garner elaborated on her previous comments about signing onto the project because she wanted to laugh.

"I was drawn to the writing, just flat out the writing was so much fun to say and David can tell you that I had a really hard time saying it," she said. "I mean, being in a scene with David and saying, 'Do you want me to have a dysfunctional pelvic floor for the whole of your birthday weekend?' Like, who gets to say that every single day at work? There were things that I got to say that I felt like no one else gets to say these lines."

Konner also joked, "the gag reel is 400 hours of giggles."

The series marks Garner's first TV role since Alias. As for her long absence from the small screen, the actress who's focused mostly on film since playing Sydney Bristow on the ABC spy series, Garner said it wasn't so much that people were offering her TV roles that she was passing on. "I think that I was working in another way and the momentum was just headed a different direction," she explained. "But I said and have always said 'I assume at some point I look forward to going back to TV.'"

Camping's shorter run was also helpful, she said.

"Being the lead in a single-lead 22-episode, I don’t think that I could do it anymore," Garner said. "I just don’t, I don’t know. I don’t know how moms do that."
