Ben Kopit will write the script for the Amazon project.

Brie Larson, the star of Room and Kong: Skull Island, will play the first female presidential candidate in Victoria Woodhull.

Amazon has bought the package that sees Ben Kopit writing the script for the story about Woodhull, who was the first woman to be nominated for the U.S. presidency in 1872. She was a women's rights activist and suffragist who could not even vote for herself on Election Day (women were not able to vote until 1920). Woodhull also was a published author, creating the radical publication Woodhull and Claflin's Weekly in 1870 with her sister. She and her sister also started the first woman-run stock brokerage company.

Larson also will produce with Whalerock Industries’ Lloyd Braun and Andrew Mittman, and Anne Woodward will executive produce.

Larson won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her starring role in 2015’s Room. She can currently be seen in Warner Bros.' Kong: Skull Island with Tom Hiddleston, and will soon be seen in Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, which will hit theaters in April. The actress also is set to take on the role of Captain Marvel in Disney and Marvel's stand-alone film slated for 2019, and also stars in Destin Daniel Cretton’s drama The Glass Castle. Larson is repped by WME, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and Sloane, Offer.

Kopit wrote the script for The Libertine, which has Brett Ratner attached to direct. He is repped by WME, Mindframe Films & Management and Jackoway Tyerman.
