The Academy Awards always have their share of memorable moments. They also have their heartfelt moments. While Brie Larson stole our hearts during her acceptance speech for Best Actress, it was a moment that happened off camera that has really impressed us this evening. The actress hugged every woman who was part of Lady Gaga’s musical performance.

The Hunting Ground was a documentary that followed women who had been victims of sexual assault. Lady Gaga and Diane Warren’s song for the film, "Til it Happens to You," was nominated for Best Original Song, and as part of Lady Gaga’s performance she brought out sexual assault survivors. As they exited the stage during the broadcast's commercial break Brie Larson stopped every single one and gave them a hug. The moment was captured by Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter. Eventually she has to start hugging several at once just to prevent a massive traffic jam, but she isn’t letting that stop her from making sure that everybody gets a hug. It’s clear that she really feels this is important. She was moved by the moment and needed to share that. It’s truly touching.

It’s clear that Brie Larson felt a need to show support for the real life victims of a crime that she portrayed on screen. Larson won her Oscar this evening for her performance in Room, in which she plays a woman who is held captive and repeatedly sexually assaulted over a period of years. You can tell Larson feels that the real victims need to be recognized.

Lady Gaga’s performance of "Til it Happens to You" was a powerful moment on the Academy Award broadcast as well. The survivors on stage had phrases printed on their arms, including "Not Your Fault" and "Unbreakable." At the conclusion the audience gave Lady Gaga and the survivors a standing ovation. While Brie Larson’s win this evening was not necessarily a surprise, she has won several Best Actress awards this awards season, she’s been mostly unknown to many average movie fans. This evening we learned that not only is she a great actress but she’s just a great person in general. We’re going to be seeing a lot more of her in the future as she’s already become a high demand actress. After seeing her in moments like, we have no problem with that.
