The Resistance and First Order had already been clashing for a while before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but following the destruction of Starkiller Base, things have escalated. This winter, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will see the conflict between the latest opposing forces in a galaxy far, far away kicked up to the next level. We've already heard reports about how Finn will go back undercover in the First Order to carry out a covert mission for the Resistance, but as far as full-blown warfare goes, it's being reported that a battle will unfold on a world over something key to the Resistance: their financial resources.

The world where this clash in Star Wars: The Last Jedi will supposedly occur is known as Crete, although it's unclear whether this is what it's actually called in the Star Wars universe or just a codename. Either way, it resembles a "giant salt flat with stretches of large black volcanic rocks," with lava coming seeping out on the rocks and the surface covered in a white substance that's either salt or light snow. This planet was previously suggested to be First Order-controlled, but Making Star Wars is now reporting that it belongs to The Resistance because of the mine located there. Apparently the Rebellion used the gems found in said mine to fund their operations against the Empire during the Galactic Civil War, and now the Resistance is doing the same thing to make sure they can keep up with fighting the First Order. Because of this, "Crete" also doubles as a hidden Resistance base.

Well, you can only keep a planet like that secret for so long, and at some point during Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the First Order will learn of it and launch an attack, which will be spearheaded by their Heavy Assault Walkers. The Resistance will use B-wings (last seen in Return of the Jedi) to defend their base, but the report also notes that may be a ground battle that unfolds either directly by the base or closer to where the Walkers are given that Snowtroopers will supposedly be used in the movie. They were briefly seen in The Force Awakens on Starkiller Base.

If you want to hurt someone where it hurts, the pockets are an excellent place to aim. It stood to reason that Star Wars: The Last Jedi would provide an especially big battle between The First Order and Resistance, and if the former wants to take the latter out of the "game" for good, destroying their main source for credits is a good way to go about doing that. We won't know if they're successful with this endeavor until the end of the year, although the last time the good guys faced an assault from giant walkers, it didn't go well. Let's take a moment of silence to remember all those we lost on Hoth.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
