Cooper and Lady Gaga star in the emotional musical drama.

Bradley Cooper's highly anticipated directorial debut, A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga, will have its world premiere at the 75th Venice Film Festival on Aug. 31.

Gaga, who previously won a Golden Globe for best actress for her role on TV series American Horror Story, makes her feature film debut. Cooper, a four-time Oscar nominee, co-wrote and produced A Star Is Born. The film will premiere out of competition.

Cooper stars as Jackson Maine, a seasoned musician who discovers and falls in love with a struggling artist, Ally (Gaga). While her career takes off, he must fight off his own personal demons.

Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliott also star.

Hollywood has seen three other versions of the film previously, with Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland, and Barbra Streisand in the title role.

The film also features original songs performed by Cooper and Gaga, making it a prime Oscar contender, especially in the music categories. Gaga already has one Oscar nomination, for performing "Til It Happens to You" for The Hunting Ground.

A Star Is Born was produced by Bill Gerber, Jon Peters, Cooper, Todd Phillips and Lynette Howell Taylor, with Ravi Mehta, Basil Iwanyk, Niija Kuykendall, Sue Kroll, Michael Rapino and Heather Parry executive producing.

Eric Roth, Cooper and Will Fetters wrote the screenplay.

The movie will be released worldwide Oct. 5. The full Venice lineup will be revealed Wednesday, July 25.
