Amazon releases The Boys season 2 trailer. Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Boys is Amazon Prime TV show that is a satirical take on the superhero genre. In the world of the series, superheros are as popular as celebrities and as influential as politicians. Many of them are contracted by an organization named Vought, and are sent to carry out missions for both the government and private institutions. However, these super-powered beings commit atrocities in the name of heroics, and often abuse their power and manipulate others to get what they want. Vought's core superhero team, The Seven, is led by the Superman-esque Homelander (Antony Starr), the most brutal and violent of the team. These "supes" are opposed by a group of individuals who see them for who they are, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).

The Boys is loved by both fans and critics, becoming one of Amazon Prime's most successful shows. Its first season was commended for its biting commentary on superheros and gave a more grounded take on what the world would be like if superheros did exist. The show is distinct with its flashy use of violence and gore, providing a more realistic picture on how powerful and dangerous superpowers can be. Amazon demonstrated their confidence in the show by renewing The Boys for season 2 ahead of season 1 even hitting the streaming service. Now, new footage from the second season has been released.

Amazon debuted the new The Boys season 2 trailer today. A gory, profane thrill ride backed by Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire," the trailer shows that the team is now being hunted and branded as criminals. Homelander is determined more than ever to find them, as they threaten the legitimacy of superheroes. The trailer shows off The Boys' and The Seven's usual violent antics, while highlighting a new member of the superhero team, Stormfront (Aya Cash). You can watch the full trailer and see the season 2 poster below.

In The Boys season 2, the group is now wanted and attempting to regroup to continue their fight against Vought. Though Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) are all in hiding together, Billy Butcher is missing after he was taken by Homelander in season 1 finale. Though what exactly happens to Butcher right after that cliffhanger isn't revealed in this trailer, it is confirmed he'll reunite with his team. Further, it was recently confirmed a Billy Butcher short film will fill in some of the blanks of his story, so that may explain why Butcher's time away isn't depicted in the trailer. Still, The Boys themselves will clearly be reunited, and based on this trailer, that will bring plenty of humor in addition to bloody violence.

Elsewhere in the trailer, The Boys introduces new superhero Stormfront, demonstrating her lightning powers for a cheering crowd. While it's unclear exactly how her arrival will disrupt the Seven, a previous season 2 teaser already showed conflict between Stormfront and Homelander. The new superhero uses social media to build her following, which may spell trouble for the Seven, whose reputations as heroes could be tarnished if the truth of their antics is revealed. For now, it remains to be seen how The Boys season 2 unfolds, and there's still some time to wait before it premieres.

The Boys season 2 premieres September 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
