The blade runner 2049 trailer is incredible, watch it now

Blade Runner is a hell of a movie, not only in its actual content, but its overall legacy of production woes, financial flopping, and eventual classic status through VHS and cult audience appreciation. To have one of those movies is lucky enough, but to have another could both be a blessing and a curse. It's up to Blade Runner 2049 to either enforce the bad luck of overdue sequels, or break from tradition and melt our minds. Seeing the first "announcement" teaser below has us siding with the latter, and you can see for yourself with this first look at the visionary next chapter.

Warner Bros dropped the first look at Blade Runner 2049, and it looks like the perfect marriage between the styles of Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve's sensibilities. Three decades after Rick Deckard's initial foray into the twisted web of Replicants and their grudge against humanity, his successor K (Ryan Gosling) is about to blow the lid off of a secret that just may further the divide, and take all of society along with it. With Deckard in seclusion, K is obviously going to need some help of his Blade Running predecessor, and it looks like he's not going to come quietly. But, as K says in the trailer above, things are different now, and if Rick doesn't co-operate, things look like they're going to get a lot worse.

The first big reveal that the Blade Runner 2049 trailer has given us is, unlike the 1982 original, we're going to get a lot more than just the rainy streets of futuristic L.A. In fact, Deckard is hiding out in a rather run down, desert-style climate that looks more like the surface of Mars than anywhere on Earth. With no sign of Sean Young's Rachel in sight, it could be assumed that she's passed on, and Rick is in a self-imposed exile, considering he really doesn't want or need much else out of his world.

Like any good trailer, Blade Runner 2049 doesn't give out a lot of information involving the film's plot overall. Even the synopsis released with the video basically contains the vague information we summarized above, so where this story is going is anyone's guess. Also absent are looks at the rest of the all-star cast, which includes everyone from Dave Bautista and Mackenzie Davis to Robin Wright and Jared Leto. The symmetry is almost comedic, considering the first trailer for Blade Runner had to engage in the complete opposite behavior in order to sell itself properly.

With our first taste of Denis Villeneuve's bold vision of a dystopian future that's bot familiar and different, Blade Runner 2049 welcomes us back to the dangerous days of the future. When October 6, 2017 roles around, we'll be ready to see what that future will bring, but in the meantime we'll just wait patiently for another trailer of some sort.
