Marvel’s Black Panther has now broken into the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all-time at the worldwide box office. What director Ryan Coogler and screenwriter Joe Robert Cole have accomplished with this film is nothing short of astonishing. Starring Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther and Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Black Panther delivered a story that continues to resonate with audiences long after its release – and all of that hype doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Ever since releasing in mid-February, Black Panther has been on a streak of breaking any and all records in its path. It started off by toppling Deadpool‘s February opening weekend record and then went on to surpass all other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on the weekday charts. After that, it grossed enough to beat Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, thus becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie ever at the domestic box office. If that wasn’t enough, it’s already the highest-rated superhero film. And now, it has crossed yet another milestone.

On Monday, Black Panther added enough to its domestic tally to pass Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck’s 2013 film, Frozen ($1.276 billion), to break into the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all-time on the global chart. Black Panther has now earned $1.279 billion in 46 days of release, which puts the film on track to top out at just over $1.3 billion worldwide.

At this point, thanks to increasing competition and the upcoming release of Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, it doesn’t seem like Black Panther has enough time or endurance to surpass either 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion) or 2012’s The Avengers ($1.518 billion); they currently sit in seventh and fifth place, respectively. However, it’s certainly possible that Black Panther can top Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi on the global chart. The Star Wars film finished its theatrical run at $1.332 billion. Of course, Black Panther has already passed The Last Jedi at the domestic box office, and as long as Marvel/Disney doesn’t pull the film from theaters, it can continue to run much higher.

Black Panther is still playing in just under 3,000 theaters in the United States. Considering that the MCU film came in third place domestically over the Easter weekend, it seems safe to presume that Marvel plans on keeping the movie in as many theaters as possible until at least Infinity War hits theaters at the end of the month. If not, then Black Panther may not be able to top The Last Jedi for the ninth spot on the global chart. But still, at least it came this far – and that itself wasn’t even considered possible just a few months ago.
