Warner Bros. is eyeing Transformers star Isabella Moner and singer-songwriter Leslie Grace for the role of Cyclone in the upcoming superhero film, Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson has been set to appear in the titular role of a DCEU Black Adam film since 2007, and the production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic will keep fans waiting even longer. Black Adam is an antihero and super doppelgänger of boy-turned-man Billy Batson, otherwise known as Shazam! Johnson as Black Adam was set to make an appearance alongside his comic-counterpart, as well as in Suicide Squad, but it seems Johnson's debut will be in his solo adventure, whenever it comes.

Details on the plot are still a bit nebulous, but preproduction updates have been doled out little by little. In the film, Black Adam is joined by the members of the Justice Society of America (JSA). Already, Noah Centineo has been cast as Atom Smasher and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. Only Doctor Fate and Cyclone remain, though we learned in February that Warner Bros. was actively seeking a young woman to portray Cyclone.

Cyclone, otherwise known as Maxine Hunkel, first appeared in 1996 as the daughter of comical golden age hero Abigal "Ma" Hunkel, better known as Red Cyclone. Unlike her grandma, Maxine has superpowers, granting her the ability to manipulate wind and fly. Cyclone has a bubbly and enthusiastic personality and is famously quite the chatterbox. Black Adam's Justice Society is slightly trimmed down, with Cyclone likely filling the role of Hawkgirl. You can only have so many high-flying heroes. Given Cyclone's unique personality among superheroes and her youth, especially compared to the thousands-of-years-old Black Adam, Hawkman, and Doctor Fate, she will likely add some much-needed diversity – and perhaps stick out like a sore thumb.

As of now, Johnson says Black Adam will start filming in spring 2021 if conditions permit. Despite the massive changes brought on by the pandemic, upending DC's release schedule, and bringing in-person production to a crawl, Warner Bros. is trying to chug along. Casting updates continue to give us glimpses into films that we should see a lot sooner than we are. Sarah Shahi joined the film in an unnamed role, with Johnson hinting that she may play the villain, though nothing is for sure.
