Chelsea Handler is pledging to donate up to $100,000 to the Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Matthew. The comedienne made the announcement on Friday, as the catastrophic storm battles Florida and moves its way up the Southeast coast.

Handler wrote to her six million Twitter followers, “Pls give what u can 4 hurricane victims. This is where I’m donating http://redcross.org. Tweet u gave w/ #chelsea I’ll match up to 100k.” Within minutes, the message had hundreds of retweets and likes.

One fan replied, “I gave $50 #chelsea thank you for caring about us Floridians!” Others, though, suggested using a different charity than the Red Cross. Still, Handler’s gesture is to be commended.

As Gossip Cop has reported, many celebrities began using the “#PrayForFlorida” hashtag on Thursday as the massive hurricane approached the state. Hundreds in Haiti were killed from the storm earlier this week, and the weather system remains life-threatening as it movies from Florida onto Georgia and the Carolinas. Among those also tweeting a lot about the situation is Florida native Josh Gad.

He shared on Friday, “All my #Floridians, please say safe. My family just scrambled up North to avoid the eye. Find a shelter and hunker down. #HurricaneMatthew.” Marlee Matlin also advised, “#HurricaneMatthew is no joke. Pay attention to evacuation orders, check the news and @REDCross. This is going to affect millions.” She went on to write, “My heart goes out to people of #Haiti, devastated by #HurricaneMatthew. Meanwhile everyone in its path watch news & stay safe @REDCross.”
