Shawn Ryan announced on Twitter Sunday that his Amazon series “Mad Dogs” has been canceled.

In a long series of 19 tweets, the executive producer said that “a decision was made not to make any more episodes of Mad Dogs.”

He added, “We were lucky to be one the best reviewed dramas on Amazon, if not the best. A lot of critics got what we were going for, so thanks.”Ryan said the decision not to move ahead came down to a disagreement with Amazon Studios head Roy Price and the creative team about the direction for a second season.

He said he and co-creator Cris Cole laid out their plans in a meeting last week for a storyline they believed in. “Ultimately, Amazon didn’t want to make that story and we didn’t want to make the kind of story they wanted us to make,” Ryan said on Twitter.

“Mad Dogs is extremely important to Cris and I and we can’t do the show any other way than to follow Cris’ vision.”

He said they decided would rather have the single season stand alone as a limited series, which was the original intention.

Mad Dogs,” which is based on a British format, stars Ben Chaplin, Michael Imperioli, Romany Malco and Steve Zahn in the tale of a group of longtime, forty-something friends who reunite in Belize at a crossroads in their lives. It debuted on January 22.
