Behold Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel's Doctor Strange!

The first officially released photo of the Sherlock star in costume as the Sorcerer Supreme grace the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Cumberbatch told EW that the photo shoot was one of the first times he'd actually worn the full costume and tried out Strange's classic spell-casting hand gestures.

"I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically," Cumberbatch recalled of the photo shoot. "I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”

Doctor Strange -- directed by Scott Derrickson and co-starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, and Mads Mikkelsen -- opens November 2016.
