It's fair to say that Marvel's Inhumans has been taking a beating from both fans and critics. Its first episode was not well received at Comic-Con, and there is an awful lot of pressure on the show to prove itself. The new trailer is hoping to change at least a few minds...

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965, the Inhumans were an outgrowth of experimentation conducted by the alien Kree early on in the Kree-Skrull War that took place millions of years in the past. Creating a station on Uranus, the Kree discovered sentient life on Earth and, intrigued by its genetic potential, began tinkering with us. Although successful, the experiments were abandoned due to a genetic prophecy that foresaw it leading to the demise of the Kree people. The Inhumans survived.

Anson Mount stars as the incredibly powerful Black Bolt, with Serinda Swan as Medusa, Iwan Rheon as Maximus (those are the three on the new poster), Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike oh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, Ellen Woglom as an unidentified character, and CG used to bring to life one-tonnne dog Lockjaw.

From the looks of the trailer, elements that have been criticised – such as Medusa's hair, which appears to be shorn quite brutally in one of the first two episodes – are being downplayed in favour of the scope and adventure. The series kicks off in IMAX screenings of those two episodes on 1 September ahead of a 29 September launch on TV screens Stateside.
