Warner Bros. have announced a release date and Blu-Ray details for the forthcoming feature-length animated comic book crossover, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While the Caped Crusader may be better known for his comic book and big screen endeavors, Batman has maintained a near-constant presence in the realm of animation, with projects as diverse as the R-Rated The Killing Joke adaptation and the Adam West-fronted Batman vs. Two-Face. One comic property far more readily associated with animation is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The heroes in a half-shell have appeared in a number of animated guises, and have also made several cinematic appearances throughout the years.

These two iconic crime-fighting entities are now set to join forces for the first time on screen. In a joint venture between DC Entertainment and Nickelodeon, a Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was announced back in February. Despite being their first on screen meeting, Batman and the Turtles have teamed-up previously in the comic world thanks to James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II's 2015 miniseries and the forthcoming movie will be based around this story. The plot will see the Dark Knight meet his new sewer-dwelling pals after some trans-dimensional hijinks and the Bat Family will unite with Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael to take down the dreaded duo of Ra's al Ghul and Shredder.

After a trailer for Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles landed earlier this week, Warner Bros. have now revealed that the film will be available in physical and digital form on May 14th, with a 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-Ray Combo Pack arriving later on June 4th. Both of the latter editions will also include a digital version of the feature.

Bonus features will apparently include a pair of featurettes, "Cowabunga, Batman! When Comic Worlds Collide" and "Fight Night In Gotham," as well as a sneak peak at the forthcoming Batman: Hush animated movie. Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also be compatible with the Movies Anywhere app service.

If the prospect of these two comic titans finally meeting on screen wasn't enough for fans to get excited over, the range of high quality visual and audio options and the added features available will surely come as pleasing news to both Batman and TMNT followers. Judging from the trailer, the movie will likely lean into the more light-hearted side of Batman canon but with Hush next on the release schedule, this is perhaps no bad thing and only serves to highlight the diversity within DC's animated output.

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on May 14th.
