Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been in domestic theaters for a week, and it's still the talk of the proverbial town due to its positive reception and impressive box office performance. Nevertheless, some attention is now being diverted to the next MCU movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. As the first solo movie starring Tom Holland's Spider-Man and the first co-production between Marvel Studios and Sony, the Web-Slinger's latest movie promises to be something interesting for the summer season. We're still a little under two months from Spider-Man: Homecoming hitting theaters, but an early prediction tracks it at making over $100 million opening weekend.

Taking a number of factors into consideration, Box Office Pro estimates that Spider-Man: Homecoming could collect around $135 million when it opens in early July. For comparison, 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man opened at a little over $62 million, and its 2014 sequel collected over $92 million its opening weekend, so if Spider-Man: Homecoming does indeed hit the guessed mark, it will blow its immediate two predecessors out of the water. However, it won't quite measure up to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which ended its domestic opening weekend with over $145 million. The website also guesses that Spider-Man: Homecoming could collect approximately $325 million by the end of its domestic run.

Even though Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie to be released in less than two decades (seventh if you count Spidey's appearance in Captain America: Civil War), the Web-Slinger remains one of pop culture's most popular superheroes, so that ensures that the money will be flowing in. Then there's the fact that unlike past Spider-Man movies, Homecoming is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and to hammer that home further, Robert Downey Jr. will appear as Iron Man. Including Tony Stark be a major draw for both longtime fans and causal moviegoers because the character has been a leading figure in the MCU since the beginning. Taking these aspects into consideration, Spider-Man: Homecoming is guaranteed to makes piles of money. The questions now are will it reach that $135 million goal and will it break any records.

Taking place a few months after Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming will follow Peter Parker balancing his normal life as a high school student with his crimefighting duties. When a gang of criminals, led by The Vulture (Michael Keaton), start wreaking havoc with advanced technology, Spider-Man will try to prove he has what it takes to be a proper superhero, even when it means having to give up all the technological goodies Tony Stark gave him.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7. Peter Parker will return next year for Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is already scheduled for July 5, 2019.
