Bad Moms Getting A Spinoff Movie, Here’s What We Know

It's hard to stand out in the crowded world of R-rated raunchy comedies these days, but that's exactly what Bad Moms managed to do this summer. Against a budget of $20 million, the film opened to an incredibly impressive $23 million weekend box office, and garnered roughly $171 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Now it seems appears that there's plenty more hilariously vulgar comedy on the way. Given the immense financial success of Bad Moms, we can now confirm that a brand new spin-off film is on the way, and it will take the premise of the original in a very different direction.

We've just learned that a Bad Moms spin-off films is already in the works at STX Entertainment. Unlike the original, the upcoming film will reportedly take the basic premise of Bad Moms, but filter the narrative through a more male-oriented lens. The title of this upcoming spin-off? Bad Dads -- although we're sure you probably figured that out already.

Although very few specific plot details have come forward concerning the upcoming release of Bad Dads, we have a feeling that it will at the very least maintain a tenuous narrative connection to Bad Moms. Cinematic universes have become a major phenomenon across a ton of different film genres, and we would absolutely love to see Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn return for brief cameos in order to get rowdy with our brand new male protagonists.

It will be interesting to see how a male-oriented spin-off of Bad Moms goes over with fans who enjoyed the unique nature of the original. While the raunchy comedy genre has pretty much become defined by male comedians over the years, Bad Moms resonated with many audiences because of its very specific and very unique female slant. Much of the film's core theme revolved around the idea that moms don't have the luxury of being "bad" in the same way that dads do. If Bad Dads follows the exact same format of Bad Moms by focusing on a trio of male misfits, then it's basically just a rehash of The Hangover's core concept. We will just have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Aside from the upcoming spin-off film, STX Entertainment appears to have a vested interest in turning the Bad (insert parental figure here) franchise into a major brand. In addition to the announcement of a Bad Dads movie, the studio has also revealed that it very much intends to other niche entertainment territories -- such as reality television, digital shorts, and consumer products programs.
