In many ways, we already live in the future. Each one of us carries computers in our pockets and any movie you want is available to watch right now. However, there are a couple of major things we're missing in this new future, flying cars, and power laces. Luckily, at least one of those items is very nearly here. Nike has announced that the Nike MAG, with actual power laces, is coming. Unfortunately, there's no amount of money that can guarantee you a pair. They're being raffled off to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation and there are only 89 available pair.
Back to the Future 2

Back in 2011, Nike released a version of the same shoe that was designed for Back to the Future Part 2. They were also raffled off to benefit the Michael J. Fox foundation, however, they did not fulfill the complete promise of the movie because they did not have the ability to lace themselves. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new version does have that capability.

The good news is that raffle tickets are only $10, and you can enter/donate as many times as you like, so if you want to really boost your chances of winning all it takes is money, and that money is going to a good cause. The Michael J. Fox Foundation is working to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease, which the actor suffers from.

Last year, on October 21, 2015, known to fans as Back to the Future Day, Michael J. Fox himself received the first pair of Nike MAG's with "adaptive lacing technology." Now, anybody else with a little money, and a little luck, can also get a pair.

While it took just as long as the movie predicted to make power laces a real thing, this is more a case of time imitating art than the other way around. While the technology is now real, what's clear, due to the fact that there are less than 100 pairs of these shoes available, is that the technology isn't yet cheap enough to really make it viable for everyday use. Whether Nike, or any other shoe company, is working on a way to make something like this part of regular shoe production isn't clear. Back to the Future Part 2 makes the shoes out to be no big deal, we're sure everybody has a pair, but in reality, they're quite rare.

If you're interested you can enter the raffle here. Will you be trying to get a pair of Nike MAG's or will you wait until you can pick up power laces at Foot Locker? Let us know in the comments.
