Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War has already set a new record. The highly-anticipated superhero team-up movie culminates a decade’s worth of storytelling into a mighty conclusion that seeks to alter the landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios’ lucrative shared universe has been setting up an ultimate showdown between the Earth’s mightiest heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos and his loyal Black Order for several years – and the first Infinity War teaser gave fans their first taste of the upcoming blockbuster.

The first batch of Infinity War footage screened at D23 Expo and San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, but the studio waited for the opportune moment to debut the first public teaser trailer, which finally released yesterday morning (and will be playing in front of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi) after weeks of teases and promises from the movie’s directors. The trailer did its job in building up hype for the upcoming film, while also providing viewers with answers to lingering questions, such as the final Infinity Stone’s location and Loki’s betrayal by giving the Tesseract to Thanos. But that’s not all it did.

Marvel Studios posted an image on Twitter this morning thanking fans for watching the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer and for being the “best fans in the universe.” According to the post, Infinity War‘s first trailer was watched 230 million times in its first 24 hours – across all social media channels, such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc. – thus making the video the most-watched trailer of all-time (within that time period).

Avengers: Infinity War‘s first teaser trailer garnered 33 million more views in its first 24 hours of release than the first teaser trailer for Andrés Muschietti’s IT. That film broke the previous record earlier this year when it nabbed a whopping 197 million views in its first 24 hours (an impressive feat for a horror movie). What’s interesting is that Infinity War is the first comic book movie in years to hold the trailer views record.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the title for almost two years by garnering 88 million views but was later bested by the second trailer for Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast. The live-action Disney remake held the record with 91.8 million views until it was surpassed by The Fate of the Furious‘ first trailer, which racked up 139 million views in December 2016 – a record that film held until IT‘s first trailer came along in March 2017.

Nowadays, it seems the trailer views record is being routinely toppled whenever a new blockbuster film begins its marketing push. Considering that social media continues to grow and trailers are being viewed on a variety of platforms, it stands to reason that Avengers: Infinity War‘s record may be beaten sometime in the near future, but which movie will be the one to overthrow the Earth’s mightiest heroes (if it’s not Thanos himself)?
