Avengers: Infinity War has already pegged July for its digital HD release. But first, the Marvel Studios megahit needs to complete its global box office stampede. After plowing through the competition in its first three weeks in theaters, Infinity War is challenging the $2 billion milestone as it sets new records. The acclaimed crossover sequel's success is likely to carry right over into a quick debut on digital platforms.

As Ant-Man and the Wasp keeps the train rolling when it hits theaters on July 6, Infinity War's epic first run will wind down as Marvel Studios looks toward delivering the smash hit on home video. Considering the monumental heights that Infinity War is reaching with moviegoers, the same can reasonably be expected on small screens as well when the film releases digitally.

The official Avengers Twitter account confirms Avengers: Infinity War will release on digital and 4K UHD on July 31. Fans can already pre-order the movie on Amazon, iTunes, Microsoft, and Vudu. There's still no official word from the account of Infinity War's physical release on Blu-ray and DVD. The description on the Amazon pre-order page teases the existence of bonus content, but no further details have been revealed yet. Vudu, meanwhile, is offering a free featurette to watch with preorders.

Although fans who prefer Blu-rays are still awaiting the date that they can get their hands on a fresh copy of Infinity War, the movie could ultimately follow the same path as fellow Marvel megahit Black Panther. The latter saw its initial digital release on May 8 and Blu-ray a week later on May 15. So, perhaps Infinity War will get a physical release date either on August 7 or the following week. A two-week gap between digital and physical releases is standard in the industry.

Of course, Infinity War still has a box office total to pad out. Although it will bow out of the top spot domestically as Deadpool 2 takes over, the former still has the $2 billion mark in its sights thanks to its performance in China. Infinity War is already the highest-grossing superhero movie ever worldwide as well as the biggest summer movie of all-time, in addition to becoming the fastest to $500 million stateside. It'll be interesting to see if the movie has a similar impact in its digital release.

Now that Marvel Studios has announced Avengers: Infinity War's digital release date, and with more box office competition coming out, it's possible that the film will start to see its theatrical run start to slow down in the coming weeks... but not just yet.
