The CW’s winter hiatus is almost over, and the network is teasing some tough times ahead in the midseason premieres of Arrow , The Flash , and Supergirl . New episodes for three of the four returning Arrowverse shows recently received a short synopsis that assures fans the series will pick up right where they left off.

That means Oliver Queen and Kara Danvers will be facing off against major adversaries, Cayden James and Reign, while Barry Allen goes up again the justice system that’s put him on trial. While it seems like all systems are go when it comes to The CW’s Arrowverse shows, they’re actually heading into the midseason without the crew of the Waverider .

Much to the chagrin of certain petition-signing fans , Legends of Tomorrow won’t be back until February 12, when it takes over Supergirl’s time slot until April 9. At that point, the adventures of the Girl of Steel will continue until June 18. That, in addition to the January 16 series premiere of Black Lightning means The CW’s superhero lineup is going to be a little different in 2018, which may or may not be to the network’s benefit.

The most show most likely to be effected by the change-up is Supergirl. As the synopsis suggests, Kara will be getting help from the Legion after she was injured in her encounter with Reign. While the series will have four episodes to explore the aftermath of her fight with the Worldkiller, and Kara’s connection to Mon-El and the Legion, the lack of follow through will stymie the progression of the season’s arc. At any rate, you can check out what Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash will be up to the week of January 15:

SUPERGIRL: “Legion of Superheroes” (Monday, Jan. 15 at 8pm)

Struggling to heal from her injuries inflicted by Reign, Supergirl remains in a dreamlike state, unable to be reached. Mon-El recruits one of the Legion members, Brainiac-5 (Defiance‘s Jesse Rath), to try to bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign continues her rampage on the city so the DEO teams up with the Legion of Superheroes to try to stop her.
THE FLASH: “The Trial of The Flash” (Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 pm)

As Barry’s trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris and Joe must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison.
ARROW: “Divided” (Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9pm)

Despite losing half his team, Oliver remains confident that he, Felicity and Diggle can stop Cayden James and Black Siren However, when he discovers one of Cayden’s secrets, he decides to team up with an unlikely ally. Meanwhile, Dinah spends time with Vince.

Arrow has been moving along nicely in season 6, as the reveal of Vigilante’s identity and Oliver’s life as a civilian have given the show time to set up interesting arcs for characters like Diggle and Black Canary. Meanwhile, pitting the hooded crime fighter against a villain like Cayden James is an interesting departure from bow-wielding adversaries like Prometheus and the Dark Archer.

The same is true of The Flash, as Barry goes toe-to-toe with the Thinker and finds that his first non-speedster Big Bad has sent him down an unexpected path. Putting Barry Allen on trial for murder suggest a deviation from the norm that, if executed well, could make for a memorable season and demonstrate the show doesn’t need doppelganger villains to succeed.
