Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed that he's now filming his scenes for director Tim Miller's untitled Terminator 6. The film reunites Schwarzenegger with his Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day collaborators James Cameron and Linda Hamilton, who are producing and reprising her role as Sarah Connor, respectively.

Schwarzenegger returned to acting full-time in 2012, following his run as California's governor from 2003-2011. Since then, however, the actor has struggled to regain his former commercial luster. Most of Schwarzenegger's movies in the last six years have fallen well short of $100 million at the domestic box office, with the exceptions of The Expendables 2 and Terminator: Genisys. Nevertheless, the actor has remained pretty selective when it comes to his projects, and even passed on Shane Black's The Predator because he felt the offered role wasn't "significant" enough.

The champion bodybuilder-turned action movie icon has also remained politically active since he began acting again. Schwarzenegger has been focusing much of his efforts in the political arena on battling global warming and was even planning to attend the Climate Action Pacific Partnership (CAPP) Conference in Suva, where talks will take place for Fiji to implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. However, in a video message addressed to the Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama (hat tip TTF), Schwarzenegger revealed that he cannot attend the event due to his commitment to filming Terminator 6, starting this week:

Terminator fans are speculating that Schwarzenegger will keep the silver beard that he has in this video, as part of his "costume" for Terminator 6. It has been confirmed that, like Genisys, Terminator 6 will feature Schwarzenegger playing an older T-800 type Terminator whose bio-exoskeleton is accordingly aged in appearance. Miller has further spoken about his desire to "embrace" Schwarzenegger's age in the film, indicating that this will be a key element in the larger story for the sixth Terminator installment.

At the same time, it's no secret that Terminator 6 is designed to act as a passing of the torch for the franchise. The film will introduce a young heroine in newcomer Natalie Reyes' Dani Ramos, who is meant to lead the property on from here. Terminator 6 will similarly include a brand-new type of Terminator played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Gabriel Luna, along with a soldier from the post-apocalyptic future played by Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049). Schwarzenegger is back (again), but it seems Terminator 6 may be the chapter in the sci-fi/action series that gives his T-800 a proper ending.
