The trailer for Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead is here. The Netflix zombie film is Snyder's first post-DCEU project and will be the director's second project to hit a streamer in the next few months. Snyder is releasing his long-awaited cut of 2017's Justice League on HBO Max in March, but Army of the Dead will be Snyder's first film outside of the DCEU since 2011 when he directed Sucker Punch.

Army of the Dead also marks another milestone for Snyder - it will be his first foray back into the zombie genre since his 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake put him on the map. The film will follow a group of mercenaries who are led into the Las Vegas desert by Dave Bautista's Scott Ward. The group is hoping to score big by robbing a casino while everyone else is distracted by the ongoing outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombies. The zombie heist film will pay homage to the father of the genre, George A. Romero, with what sounds like a Snyder twist.

Army of the Dead is slated to hit May 21 and, as promised, Netflix released a first look at the film today. The neon hued clip begins with a look at a dilapidated Las Vegas as zombies swarm the streets before flashing back to the outbreak as it happens. We get flashes of zombies attacking casino goers interspersed with looks at the squad of mercenaries as they navigate the zombie invested desert city. Check out the clip below:

Snyder is clearly going for a brighter visual palette in this film compared to his recent output. Snyder's work in the DCEU has been both darker in tone and cinematography, but the choice to switch is a smart one. The dusty, sun baked streets of Las Vegas are the perfect place for Snyder to expand his aesthetic. Unfortunately, the clip is rather brief, only running for about a minute.

Still, the clip shows the scope of the film and it looks absolutely massive. Snyder will be cutting between the events of the film and the outbreak as it happens in Las Vegas which could also give a glimpse into what may happen in the Army of the Dead prequel that is also slated for Netflix. Ultimately, though, the focus will be on the group of mercenaries and Snyder is following through on the "army" in the title - the group will have to fight their way through what looks like thousands of zombies while protecting all the cash they've grabbed from the casino. It's pretty much guaranteed that they won't all make it out alive.
