Aquaman Movie Poster Reveals Arthur Curry’s Underwater Army

The Aquaman movie poster features Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry front and center; the one-sheet arrives ahead of the first Aquaman trailer dropping at Comic-Con 2018 later this week. Warner Bros. is taking a long break between their last DC Films' universe release - Justice League in November 2017 - and their next upcoming movie. James Wan's Aquaman hits theaters in December and will follow the Justice League standout on an adventure of his own. Aquaman will see Arthur Curry return to his home of Atlantis and battle his brother for the crown.

Fans have been looking forward to the release of Wan's DC movie for some time, and have been clamoring for a first teaser trailer for months. The first Aquaman footage debuted at SDCC 2017, but wasn't released online. Then, Warner Bros. screened Aquaman footage at CinemaCon earlier this year - but it also wasn't publicly released. There have been plenty of rumors about when the Aquaman trailer would officially release, but now we finally know it will premiere during the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego this weekend. Now, to tease that event, the first teaser poster has been released.

Warner Bros. unveiled the vertical Aquaman teaser poster along with a horizontal version, both of which can be viewed below. Each poster features the tagline, "Home is Calling," teasing Arthur Curry's return to Atlantis. The posters also include the slick Aquaman movie logo that was unveiled when filming began on Wan's DC movie project.

After Justice League, which received middling reviews and underperformed at the box office, Warner Bros. may be looking to bounce back with Aquaman. The best received and most successful installment of this cinematic franchise at the domestic box office so far was Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, which followed Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice standout Diana Prince (Gal Gadot). Wonder Woman didn't concern itself too much with connecting to the larger universe, instead focusing on telling the titular heroine's origin story and offering a unique superhero movie experience.

Based on what we know about Aquaman, it may find similar success by focusing on Arthur Curry's world below the sea. The movie will fill out Aquaman's part of the DC universe by featuring a host of new characters. While Mera (Amber Heard) will return after an appearance in Justice League, Aquaman will introduce Arthur's brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), Arthur's mentor Vulko (Willem Dafoe), King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren), and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) as well as Arthur's parents Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison) and Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman).

Between this talented cast, Wan's work behind the camera, and Momoa starring as the titular hero, Aquaman could certainly prove to be another hit for Warner Bros. Now, fans will finally get their first look at the film when the Aquaman trailer arrives later this week.
