With great power comes, hopefully, a great origin story. Case in point, last year's Ant-Man was a particularly effective start to the career of Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, who was last seen as a comedic relief in Captain America: Civil War. While that same origin did tease at Hope Van Dyne becoming the latest variant of the hero known as "The Wasp," a character originated by her mother, Janet, it was felt that giving her an origin in the same film would be an insult to a character that deserved her own moment in the spotlight. A moment that looks like it'll finally come in Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Evangeline Lilly was the source of such hopes, as she spoke with Blastr during her appearance at this past weekend's New York Comic-Con. While the script to Ant-Man and The Wasp is currently in its first draft phase, and does not have approval by any of the higher-ups at Marvel Studios, Lilly divulged the following tidbit of information:

An initial script has been created, but it has not been approved by the higher powers that be -- the Feiges haven't seen it yet. I have talked to Peyton [Reed] about where they're headed and what they want to focus on. I'm excited because it's essentially going to be the origin of The Wasp. Of course, we'll get to see the Wasp take on the mantle for the first time, and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing.

Now, while The Wasp's origins are up for the telling in Ant-Man and The Wasp, that's not to say that the story will take up a huge part of the film's storyline. After all, this is a continuation of the Ant-Man storyline, and part of the origin for the character has already been laid down in the previous film, thanks to Hank Pym's cautionary tale about the "quantum realm." So while Peyton Reed's sequel would technically be an origin story for Hope's tenure as The Wasp, it's still a continuation of the B-story from the first film.

Seeing as Ant-Man and The Wasp is due out on July 6, 2018, there's plenty of time for the second and third drafts to possibly beef up the role that Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne will play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering she'll be a part of whatever the follow up to The Avengers: Infinity War will be named, it'll have to be as solid as Scott Lang's introduction to the MCU. As soon as we get any sorts of updates on Ant-Man and The Wasp, we'll be sure to update you as soon as possible.
