The Steven Knight film also stars Jason Clarke, Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong and Rafael Sayegh.

The second trailer for Serenity was released Tuesday.

The neo-noir thriller follows fishing boat captain Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey). His quiet life is shattered when his ex-wife, Karen (Anne Hathaway), tracks him down to ask for help. When Dill learns that the lives of Karen and their son are at stake due to her new violent husband (Jason Clarke), Dill is forced to confront his past.

Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong and Rafael Sayegh round out the cast. Steven Knight directed the film and penned the script.

The trailer opens with Dill jumping off a cliff into water, which gives an introduction to his new beach town life. "You know how in Plymouth we say everybody knows everything?" asks Dill in a voiceover. "Wouldn't it be funny if the truth was that nobody knows anything?"

Viewers then get to see what Karen has been up to since her divorce from Dill. Her new husband is seen inspecting her body, then prepares to whip her when he finds a scratch.

When Karen returns to Dill's life, she propositions him to drop her new husband into the ocean full of sharks. If he follows through with the plan, Karen will pay him $10 million.

The trailer concludes as Dill struggles to decide whether or not he wants to go through with the plan. "Where in the world are we?" he later asks as he stares at a map and learns that they are nowhere near his home of Plymouth.

Aviron Pictures acquired the distribution rights for Serenity in February. The film was scheduled to be released in September and was then pushed to Oct. 19. Serenity will now hit theaters Jan. 25.
