Marvel and Sony's upcoming Spider-Man film will release in IMAX right alongside its worldwide debut next July.

In addition, the new standalone Spidey film – which stars Tom Holland as the web-slinging hero – will be digitally remastered for IMAX 3D.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution president Josh Greenstein commented on the news, saying in a statement: "There’s so much about Spider-Man – including the web-slinging action – that lends itself perfectly to the IMAX screen. We are confident that audiences everywhere around the world will want to see it in IMAX."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also expressed his excitement in the IMAX release, noting "it will be a great way for audiences around the world to experience such a big event film."

The upcoming reboot was originally supposed to release on July 28, 2017 but Sony Pictures announced just last week that Spider-Man will debut two weeks earlier on July 7.
