Amazing Infinity War Fan Trailer Takes Cues from X-Men: Days of Future Past
A fan-created trailer for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War mines inspiration from Fox's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, the MCU rolled out their biggest film yet with Avengers 3. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the movie brought together all pockets of the franchise as Earth's Mightiest Heroes battled Thanos. Meanwhile, the 2014 Bryan Singer-helmed film is still considered as one of the best installments of the X-Men series. The second movie from the prequel continuity, it boasted a star-studded cast featuring both past and present iterations of the beloved mutants.
Marvel fans have long been dreaming of the X-Men and the Avengers coming together in one epic blockbuster, but due to rights, the two most prominent superhero teams of the brand remain separated from each other. This prompted countless fan-created posters and mash-ups imagining what it would look like for the mutants and the Earth's Mightiest Heroes unite on the big screen. This latest one, however, albeit a bit unusual compared to usual fan-made materials, melds the two separate Marvel worlds together.
The trailer made by YouTube content creator Mr. Krephsus takes the main theme in the first trailer for Days of Future Past released in 2013 with different snippets from Infinity War's official trailers, as well as from the film itself. And while there aren't any narrative parallels between the two movies, the result is a well-made video that fans are digging. Watch the full clip above.
Admittedly, Infinity War and Days of Future Past could not be any more different, but what's interesting is that if popular theories about Avengers 4 come to fruition, the still-untitled movie may just have few similar plot points to the Singer-directed movie. Piecing together leaked set photos and comments from people involved in the MCU, many postulate that Avengers 4 will involve time-travel, which also played a major factor in the X-Men film. While there is a myriad of reasons how the Marvel Studios movie can utilize time-warping in their narrative, one of the feasible ways claim that Tony Stark would revisit the Battle of New York and several other huge events tied with the arrival of Thanos in the hopes of rewriting history and prevent the Mad Titan's deadly snap. This is like what Wolverine did in Days of Future Past to prevent the extinction of mutants in the present.
Soon enough, fans won't have to resort to mash-ups like this for any X-Men and Avengers content. With the Disney/Fox merger finally pushing forward with shareholders of both companies voting in favor of the buyout, the companies are just waiting on regulatory approvals from major international markets for things to be official. Industry people are predicting that the deal will be finalized sometime next year. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige remains mum about his plans on how they can use the mutants in the MCU. While he previously told fans to not expect any mutants popping up in the franchise any time soon, chances are that he and his team already have an idea on how to incorporate the X-Men, as well as the Fantastic Four in their established lore.
