The DC Extended Universe is about to get a whole lot bigger. What started simply enough with a few Easter eggs in Man of Steel referencing Wayne Enterprises, LexCorp and (possibly) Supergirl will soon expand to include a new version of Batman played by Ben Affleck and a whole host of other heroes and villains.

The next movie up is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will introduce Affleck's caped crusader, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and a giant CG Doomsday. Then in August Suicide Squad will blow the doors off the DCEU, adding Jared Leto's Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Will Smith as Deadshot and many, many more.

So let's take a moment to meet all the heroes and villains we can expect to see in the DC Comics movie universe. Bear in mind, these are only the ones we know about so far. There are bound to be more surprises in both movies, not to mention the massive slate of upcoming films DC has planned.

Margot Robbie stars in Suicide Squad as a psychiatrist who becomes the mad Harley Quinn after a run-in with The Joker.

Jai Courtney and his wacky hairdo join the Suicide Squad as Captain Boomerang who, notably, doesn't seem all that interested in boomerangs.

Cara Delevingne joins the Suicide Squad as the sorceress known as Enchantress.

Viola Davis plays ruthless bureaucrat Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad.

Common is rumored to play the Tattooed Man in Suicide Squad, a man who can make his tattoos do things tattoos should not do.

Jay Hernandez plays Chato Santana, a criminal known as El Diablo who is recruited into the Suicide Squad.

Karen Fukuhara slices her way into the Suicide Squad as Katana. From a practical standpoint she might want to think about using a clip to keep that hair out of her face.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje plays the reptilian ruffian Killer Croc in Suicide Squad.

Will Smith takes aim as a pretty rad looking Deadshot in Suicide Squad. Too bad they couldn't get him to do the theme song.

Tom Hardy missed his chance so Joel Kinnaman stars in Suicide Squad as military man Rick Flag.

Adam Beach ties himself to the Suicide Squad as Slipknot. Okay, that was a really weak pun.

He's not gonna kill you. He's just gonna hurt you really, really bad. Jared Leto brings a controversial new look to The Joker in Suicide Squad.

A number of surprise characters are expected to show up in Suicide Squad. It looks like Jim Parrack will play minor Joker henchman Jonny Frost. There have also been rumors that Raymond Olubawale will play King Shark and Scott Eastwood will appear as Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke.

Though Zod was definitely the man, he wasn't the only Phantom Zone escapee to square off with Superman in Man of Steel. He was joined by a posse of fellow Kryptonians including Faora-Ul (played by Antje Traue, pictured), Car-Vex, Dev-Em II, Jax-Ur, Nadira, Nam-Ek, and Tor-An.
Ben Affleck will become the latest star to don Batman's cape and cowl when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premieres. This time with power armor!

Shazam! isn't slated to hit until 2019 and we still don't know who'll play the title role. We do know that Dwayne Johnson will play the villain, Black Adam.

Yeah, so Robin may be long dead and therefore not technically in Batman v Superman. But judging from the trailer, his presence weighs heavily on Batman's conscience.

Is Chris Pine's Steve Trevor a hero or just a love interest? In the comics he's tends to switch back and forth. We'll have to wait until 2017's Wonder Woman to find out where he fits in the DC Extended Universe.

Amid all the hype about Batfleck, Gadot, and the Suicide Squadders, it's important to remember the centerpiece of the DC Extended Universe and its most powerful character, Henry Cavill's Superman.

Theatre actor Ray Fisher reportedly has a small role in Batman v Superman as Cyborg, though his character is expected to become much more important in 2017's Justice League.
