Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan star in the drama, co-written by Dano and Zoe Kazan.

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Paul Dano's directorial debut, Wildlife.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan star in the drama as a couple whose marriage falls apart. Set in a small town in 1960s Montana, it zooms in on the experience of their son (Ed Oxenbould), as his father leaves home in search of purpose and his mother finds solace in another man.

Ed Oxenbould and Bill Camp co-star in the film, which made its world premiere in the U.S. dramatic competition section of the Sundance Film Festival.

"For as long as I have wanted to make films, I have known I would make films about family. To have brought together a creative family in the making of Wildlife has been one of the great joys of my life," Dano said. And now to extend that family further and collaborate with IFC, whose voice as a distributor has been vital to so many filmmakers I love all over the world, is an honor."

Dano makes his helming debut with the adaptation of Richard Ford's acclaimed novel, featuring a screenplay he wrote with his partner Zoe Kazan. Dano, Gyllenhaal, Riva Marker, Alex Saks, Oren Moverman and Ann Ruark produced.
