Fall TV is upon us and as the glut of both new and returning shows begins to overwhelm, we thought we'd pause to single out some possible highlights for you. Nine new shows that we're hoping will either straight-up slay or, you know, give us warm and fuzzy feelings of hope. It's a super-crowded landscape this year, what with network, cable, and streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon all hitting us with projects, so let's cherry pick some of the best new offerings this Autumn will bring us.
The Bastard Executioner
TUESDAY, September 15th on FX
Though there's currently talk of a Sons of Anarchy spinoff series in the works, you won't have to wait that long to immerse yourself in the bloody, violent world of Kurt Sutter-created TV. The brains behind SOA is back on FX already with The Bastard Executioner, starring Lee Jones as a knight in King Edward I’s army who is broken by the horrors of war and vows to lay down his weapon. But when violence finds him again, he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all: an executioner's sword.
Blindspot
MONDAY, September 21st on NBC
Thor's Jaimie Alexander stars in this new NBC thriller as a beautiful woman with no memories of her past who's found naked in Times Square with her body fully covered in intricate tattoos. Her discovery sets off a vast and complex mystery that immediately ignites the attention of the FBI, which begins to follow the road map on her body into a larger conspiracy of crime, while bringing her closer to discovering the truth about her identity.
The Muppets
TUESDAY, September 22nd on ABC
Already finding itself in the midst of a "purist" micro-controversy because Kermit and Miss Piggy have broken up and Kermit's now dating a new pig named Denise, ABC's new Muppets docu-comedy, about the inner workings of a Miss Piggy late night talk show, looks to give America's beloved puppets a hilarious, slightly edgier makeover.
Scream Queens
TUESDAY, September 22nd on FOX
American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy cranks up the comedy with this new FOX slasher series about a snobby sorority being stalked by a killer from the past. You can check out our Comic-Con interview with star Emma Roberts below. And if you'd like to see all our interviews - including ones with Jamie Lee Curtis, Abigail Breslin, and more - head over to this page.
Heroes Reborn
THURSDAY, September 24th on NBC
Now, here's the deal. We'll always have a soft spot in our heart for Heroes' first season. After that though? Well, things got notably sucky. Still, we hope NBC's big play to bring back the Heroes-verse - titled Heroes Reborn - works. We like the addition of Zachary Levi to the cast, the promise of a whole new slate of super-powered beings, and returning faces such as Jack Coleman, Masi Oka, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Greg Grunberg.
Supergirl
MONDAY, October 26th on CBS
Leaping over to the end of October now, CBS is getting into the DC hero game with Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist as Kryptonian exile Kara Zor-El - Superman's cousin. Scheduled to air opposite Gotham on FOX (curious head-to-head competition), Supergirl also stars Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks (as DC's Jimmy Olsen), David Harewood (as DC's Hank Henshaw), Jeremy Jordan (as DC's Winn Schott). Plus, super guest stars Dean Cain and Helen Slater!
Ash Vs. Evil Dead
SATURDAY, October 31st on Starz
The OG Evil Dead team of Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert return for a this ultra-violent Starz sequel series featuring Campbell reprising the iconic role of goofball badass Ash Williams. Now 30 years older, Ash teams with co-workers Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) to slice and dice some fearsome Deadites. All while trying to evade the wrath of Lucy Lawless' Ruby. Come get some!
The Man in the High Castle
FRIDAY, November 20th on Amazon
Given how impressed we were with the pilot episode that Amazon aired last January, this first season of The Man in the High Castle - based on the famous alternative history novel by Philip K. Dick - has us really excited. Starring Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Rufus Sewell, and DJ Qualls, the series depicts what life after WWII may have been like if the Nazis had won the war and America was now occupied by Germany and Japan.
Marvel's Jessica Jones
SOMETIME THIS FALL on Netflix
The fact that there's still no official trailer, poster, photos, or a premiere date released for Netflix's next Marvel series, Jessica Jones, isn't going to stop of from being psyched for it. Based on Brian Michael Bendis' mature and superb Alias series, Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as the titular Jones - a traumatized ex-superhero who's now trying to rebuild her life as a private investigator. David Tennant will play series villain Kilgrave - aka "Purple Man" - while Rachael Taylor plays Jones' childhood friend, Trish "Patsy" Walker - aka Marvel's "Hellcat."
