I have not done the signup but I guess a gmail is more than valid and sufficient.

ps: let's see if someone outside of Germany has been more lucky, don't want to try because i would not use it. In the translation says nothing of bans gmail, the only thing it says is that it will be visible in the forum. I don't know.
