Waffles: News
Waffles Staff Picks - August Edition
Welcome to the August edition of the Waffles.fm Staff Picks. Please remember we do not look to balance genres or purposely seek out diversity - these are simply albums by bands that we love, and hope that you find something you enjoy as well. Note that each pick may be an individual track, or an entire album (for the purpose of the theme). In every case, however, the entire album will be FL. All of these albums will be freeleech until the end of August.
The donation drive is also still running until August 16, and we really need a big push for the final week of the drive. Please help keep waffles going!
Your support is greatly appreciated

Artist: Stereolab
Album: Mars Audiac Quintet
Track: Ping Pong
Description
Here we have a contrarian pick that says economic progress is a myth, its all a cycle. Laetitia Sadier's take on marxism is well on display here. Mars Audiac Quintet is Stereolab's third album, and it's the poppiest in their catalog, toning down the cosmic rock/krautrock influences, instead bringing their space-age analogue synth pop to the fore. Lots of nice early hits on this album. And, it's a nice reminder that there was a lot more going on in the early and mid 1990s than just grunge and poppy punk. This band could do no wrong...until 1999. Then the bottom fell out.

izmo
Artist: yumi zouma
Album: ep ii
Track: alena
If you're familiar with their first ep, you'd never think this track came from the same band. It's largely different, but just as good.

Artist: iLiKETRAiNS
Album: Progress Reform
This album literally has multiple tracks about Robert Scott's expedition to the South Pole in 1912. Sometimes progress is just a frigid, doomed voyage to nowhere. Or maybe that's just the post-rock talking.

Artist: Mooncake
Album: Lagrange Points
I'm not sure why, but when the theme "Progress" was chosen for this month's theme, this album came to mind first. Perhaps it's the video for the great opening track, which progresses from Earth and out into the furthest reaches of the known universe. The track name also relates to Arthur C. Clarke [titled _Nine Billion Names... (To A. Clarke)_] and I think he is a man synonymous with "progress". So I guess this album fits. It's a great one, IMO.
