Hey GGn community!

New IP & Downtime
As many of you noticed already, we encountered some issues with various servers recently. We've now been able to restore all important services and will continue to add servers in the future. This is also a good opportunity for us to take another look at some of our setups and make some improvements. As an upside, the slowness we've been experiencing throughout the past week should now be resolved. Our new site proxy now uses the IP 107.189.30.10. Anyone who's been using a static routing bypass previously will need to update it with this new IP.

So, how did this actually happen? Initially, we've been informed that one of our providers would stop offering their services on a somewhat short notice, so we were rushing to find and set up a suitable replacement. At the same time, there was an issue confirming a transaction with another provider. Due to the work on replacing our first set of servers and the expected issues that would bring with it, we did not notice the payment bouncing, which in turn lead to our other provider taking our servers offline. As a result, we were in the unfortunate situation where we've lost servers from two different providers, which included both our site proxies and our IRC nodes. Consequently, IRC went down and the site was no longer reachable. We've been able to finish setting up the replacement site proxy without too much delay and the site or tracker themselves were not further affected.

Setting a new IRC server wasn't quite as easy, however, as we discovered we did not backup any configuration or other data from IRC. We've been able to rebuild the IRC network; you can now join once again via irc.gazellegames.net +7000 for SSL or 6667. However, NickServ and other services have lost all data, so nicks will have to be registered again before you can chat in IRC.

VPN Blocking
With the IP change and the resulting issues of bypasses or exceptions failing, we were aware that this would be an inconvenience to users. We've accelerated work on a project we've been planning for a longer time already and managed to finish and test our new automatic VPN blocking system. This system is intended to automatically block any connection attempts coming from an unapproved VPN IP. This does not mean that our VPN Usage Rules no longer apply — users are still responsible for their own connection attempts and should make sure not to connect with any unapproved VPN. With that said, our new system should now catch the vast majority of VPN IPs and will not allow them to access the site.
