Extracted Scene Releases and .SRR files!

Back in April 2019, we conducted a poll : Should we upload scene releases UNRARED(aka extracted) or shall we keep uploading them as scene releases them, aka in RAR format? The poll is located here : Time to vote! and the outcome was prety much clear : almost 70% voted in favor of extracted releases vs just 24% of the ones voted against it. So we had to do something about it!!


Upload the scene releases extracted, isn’t the challenging part. The real challenge was,“how on Earth we can keep everyone happy?!?”. After lot of brainstorming, we came up with a solution, that hopefully makes both parties happy!


The solution is called SRR file. What is an SRR file you ask? Without the technical mumbo-jumbo, "The .srr file is the format used by ReScene. It contains backups of all parts of the RAR files that are not the actual archived data. Think about the .SRR file as a CRC check of the original scene release, which if you have that, you can RECREATE the original Scene release from the extracted version. One on one, like it never got extracted. This file is created before we extract, and it will be included from now on on every movie/TV episode you will see on TL(scene ones, p2p groups never compress/rar by default)


This way, the majority who voted for extracted releases will get exactly that(the release among with the .nfo but without the RARs!) but at the same time, we will include the .SRR file of every release so for all the collectors/nostalgic folks out there who want the ORIGINAL RAR formatting for their own reasons(could be to croseed somewhere else or simply “just because”) will have the ability, with a simple ReScene program to reconstruct in its original format.


P.S. I want to make it clear again, this will ONLY apply to MOVIES and TVs. Games/Apps or anything else, will keep been uploaded in its original format.
