Spain’s video and TV industry has launched a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the harm caused by content piracy.

Led by major TV rights holders such as LaLiga and the Ministry of Culture and Education, the campaign, No piratees tu futuro, is supported by Atresmedia, Disney, Discovery Channel, Mediapro, Movistar+, Prisa and Vodafone.

The audiovisual campaign will be broadcast across free-to-air (FTA) TV and pay-TV and will also be showcased in theatres over the next three months.

“Content piracy hinders growth of the cultural and sports industries. Behind a movie, a book or a football game there are many professionals that are working hard to bring that content to the audience,” stated the Ministry.

According to the latest figures available, reported last April by Gfk and the Observatorio de la Piratería, 63% of online content consumers in Spain used a pirate platform in 2015, increasing from 58% in 2014.
