Search giants, including Google and Microsoft, agreed to implement technology to block UK users from viewing child abuse images. But will it help?

The decision came after a threat from the UK Prime Minister. David Cameron claimed that the companies have to come up with the technology to block illegal content or the government will be quick to implement legislation forcing the tech giants to do it.

However, the former head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre admitted that it was unlikely that the implemented measures would make much of a difference.

In the meantime, the largest search engines have already been blocking such infringing material, so this move won’t have any effect. Perhaps, it would be better for the government to put more funding in police regions in order to employ experts to hunt down pedophiles.
