Because no one seems to read the small features and changes thread or the IRC page and every time this happens there are tons of questions about it , here is a news item about the login through IRC feature that was implemented over a year ago :

irc.php wrote:If the number of failed logins in the past 6 hours has exceeded a threshold, first SimpleCaptcha and then ReCaptcha will be activated and required for login until the number of login attempts is below the threshold again. If an attack continues even past that, the login page will be disabled temporarily. For you to be able to login regardless, you will need a login token which can only be generated by the IRC bot. A login token also bypasses all individual IP bans due to failed logins from your IP as well as the need for either the SimpleCaptcha or the reCaptcha, so it can be used at any time.

To be able to generate a login token, you must be registered with nickserv and previously have been invited to the main channel, #scenehd.

To generate a login token, use the .login command in #scenehd or in a private message to the bot, whichever you prefer. You will receive a notice with a login link that includes the login token.

Login tokens are only valid for the user that generated them and expire after 5 minutes!

I would strongly suggest that everyone familiarizes themselves with IRC! Even if you do not want to be on there all the time (or at all), having your IRC key saved somewhere so you can go and join #scenehd to use the login-through-IRC feature might be a good idea. Otherwise you will be left out in the cold for a period of time while the attack continues.
