With the heavy increase in UHD material with HDR over the past many months, we, the staff and internal team, feel it is time to embrace x265 encodes. The x265 encoder has one main advantage over the x264 encoder: the ability to carry HDR metadata. For this reason, x265 encodes will only be allowed for UHD blu-ray's with HDR and only at resolutions 1080p and 2160p. UHD blu-ray's without HDR should be encoded with the x264 encoder as usual. See THIS for an overview of what content is allowed.

Our internals have been extensively testing the x265 encoder to a point where we are now comfortable with it. Based on these tests, we have established a set of minimum requirements needed for an x265 encode to be given the AHD Gold badge. At the same time, we have updated the AHD Gold requirements for x264 encodes. The minimum requirements for AHD Gold may be found HERE, but note that the requirements for x265 encodes may change in the future as we grow wiser. To accomodate this, we have updated our MediaInfo checker.

To celebrate this milestone, we promise you plenty of internal x265 encodes in the coming weeks. To add to that, all internal x265 encodes uploaded from the time of this news post will be given 100% freeleech until October 31st, 2018.
