The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) has moved to stop the illegal distribution of TV programmes on the internet.

In a statement, it says that it has decided to issue mandatory instructions to network providers to block the website sharavoz.com, which undertakes such activities.

It adds that the owner of the site has failed to notify it of its intention to distribute TV content over the internet and so is violating the requirements of the Law on Public Information.

LRTK applied to the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court for a permit to issue mandatory instructions to network operators to block the site.

The permit was issued on August 27 and network operators now have five days to do so following the receipt of the instructions.
