PS4 Piracy Begins As GTA V, Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed Hit Internet
If you’ve got an extremely old firmware, a loose sense of morals, and the technical knowhow, you can now pirate PS4 games. This is because release group Knights of the Fallen have put out the first decrypted PlayStation 4 games out this week. We won’t link to the files, but they can be found on various torrent sites.
The games that Knights of the Fallen have uploaded are Grand Theft Auto V, Far Cry 4, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As one would expect from AAA titles, the download files for these cracked versions are quite big, as GTAV is comprised of 90 500MB files, Far Cry 4 is 54 500MB files, and ACIV being 84 250MB files.
Aside from the moral qualms that come with being a thief stealing the hard work of others, it’s also unlikely that most gamers could run the pirated PS4 games. For the pirated PS4 games to run, players must use PlayStation 4 firmware 1.76, which was released in August 2014. Even if you do have that firmware, it means that you can only play older releases as newer games require later firmware to play, and that you can never go online.
Still, this is a huge moment for PS4 piracy, and might only be the tip of the iceberg if Sony isn’t on top of things. The PlayStation 4 homebrew scene is currently quite small, and there’s no real good legal reason to jailbreak your console at the moment. Regardless, we will have more on this situation as it develops.
